Ear candles

A few years back i wanted to try ear candleing. I heard it was good to do once a year as a cleansing and renewing method. I looked into several spas that did it in manhattan and i was shocked to find them charging $60 and up (some places $100!).  The candles only cost $6-$10 for a pair.  I called around thinking ok, maybe there is more to the therapy then just using the candles for them to charge so much but there was not. I decided to purchase the candles and do it myself. I had a friend accompany me while doing it because there is fire involved and i wasnt sure really how to use them.  It’s actually very simple. You light the bigger end of the cone on fire and the candle works as a suction cup to take the wax out of the ear.  You have to keep your head tilted to one side and make sure if you have long hair its tied back and away from the fire. You should also have water nearby in case something goes wrong and the fire gets out of hand. I experienced this first hand but it was due to carelessness.  Also you should have a pair of scissors to keep clipping the big end of the cone.  You can find these directions on the box.

Its interesting to see what comes out into the candle.  It literally looks like a ball of wax. There is some controversy to weather this is caused from the candle and whatever is used to hold it together or if its really ear wax. I burned a candle without putting it in my ear and nothing remotely close to what i saw when i had the candle in my ear came out so i believe it is wax that you are seeing.

I have to say when i finished the candles I really did feel different. I felt more balanced, and lights appeared a little brighter. Ive also done it when i have felt a sore throat coming on and it doesnt help open the ears, nose and throat.

AS for where to buy them that is tricky.  Wholefoods will not sell them,( maybe due to legal reasons???) not sure as to why, but usually small family owned health stores will sell then and recently GNC started to as well.  http://www.gnc.com/sm-wallys-natural-products-100-beeswax-ear-candles–pi-2134280.html

  2. I have handmade and sold ear candles for over 16 years and you are using them incorrectly.

They are an old home remedy and not approved by FDA (the AMA has a huge lobby and works with FDA to keep them from being approved. Plus the Pharm companies lobby against it also because they can patent ear candles since they have been around for so long).

Wally’s just sells lots of candles and doesn’t give proper instructions for use.

You need to be lying down and keep the candle straight up so the flame is entirely around the opening to keep air from entering in order to make a vacuum. About 10-20% of the residue you find after candling is from the candle itself (it is the light powdery residue).

I have written a booklet called “Happy Candling and Good Health” and it is available on my website: http://www.leescandles.com

I sell ear candles retail for only $1.75 each.

Please visit my site and read the instructions and information available about ear candling.

I also sell ear candling accessories.

Thanks for the post about ear candling!
